DRT/Boogaloo crew

Found this brilliant remix of a track by DRT over at one of my favourite blogs Rub a Dub Dub. DRT is one half of filthy grime/dubstepers 16bit. The remix of this excellent track is probably a good example of the new style of UK garage which has been emerging over the lastyear and is a beautiful listen. In my eyes UK garage used to be dirty words but the new productions couldn’t be any further from DJ Luck and MC Neat if they tried.

Also grab the boogaloo crews mix they did for boxfish, more future music.

Nightshifters

DJ Donna Summer aka Jason Forrest, head of the Nightshifters label was asked by the Russian company ZNMA Vodka–pronounced “zima”, no relation–to make an exclusive mix for Mother Russia. Up for the challenge, as always, Forrest’s mix is 100% label-based and includes an amalgamation of edits, pre-releases and bangers from his crew. Available as a digipack in Russia and in mp3 format for all of us outside of that eighth of the world’s land surface (some geography for you there); this mix is a straight fire to the brain, sort of blipped out anvil drop for lovers of all things bassy, ravey and dark.

Camo & Krooked

Continuing on the drum and bass now with Camo & Krooked, two Austrians making a quite an impression on the scene with their funky electro infused dnb tracks. They have been making tracks for a few years but with  growing support from DJ’s such as  John B, DJ Fresh and Grooverider to name a few and with amazing previous releases such as “global warming” on viper and the trancey dnb “skyline” forthcoming on John B’s Beta recordings they are sure to do well.

Sex, Drugs and Sausage ROLLZ

Young DJ/producer, Rollz is causing quite a stir in the d’n’b scene at the moment. Signed to Formation records and with only a handful of tunes under his name, he’s already caught the attention of Sub Focus (supporting him on his most recent tour) and Hospital’s finest, High Contrast. What really impressed me was this incredible video of High Contrast closing his set at Hospitality @ Matter (06/11/09) with Rollz latest scorcher of a tune – ‘Plugged In’. Check out the rewind and watch the crowd go mental!

‘Plugged In’ is released in January and is already getting frequent air play from Radio 1 DJs such as Rob Da Bank and the legendary Grooverider. Zane Lowe has recently given ‘Plugged In’ the label of ‘Hottest Record in the World’ for the third week running, which is incredibly impressive for a relatively unknown producer! My money says this is one d’n’b producer who wont stay unknown for long.

For more info check out Rollz on Facebook or MySpace.

Crookers, Mixhell, Soulwax!!!

Crookers fell off it a bit for me post “Day and Night” remix explosion. I’ve been a little bit disappointed with their recent output. However this is a return to form!! Although it sounds a bit more like Soulwax featuring live drums from Mixhell. Still very good though.

Crookers (ft. Soulwax & Mixhell) – We Love Animals

Bonus:

Crookers – Knobbers

Bleep Hop

Hudson Mohawke did this essential mix the other week for Radio 1. It is a real genre mashup, unlike anything you will have ever heard before. Hip-Hop, Dubstep, Warp records style electronica, R’n’B, House, Garage, even a touch of 80’s. Listen to it bleep and bounce along…

BBC sound of 2010……

This week saw the good old British Beeb announce its shortlist for its “Sound of 2010”.  Here’s what its about:

“The list is designed to highlight the most exciting musical talent for the coming year and the artists have been picked by 165 UK-based tastemakers. They each named their favourite three new acts and those with the most votes were put on the list. The top five and winner will be unveiled in January. Little Boots, Adele and Mika are among the previous Sound of… winners.” For details see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8395789.stm This usually means the artist who wins will be massively over hyped and never quite live up to expectations. Still they may get to appear on the Graham Norton show or alike….

Anyway, within this shortlist, two artists caught my eye who I have been meaning to post some stuff about.

First up is Gold Panda.

“Gold Panda is a left-field producer and remixer called Derwin who makes instrumental soundtracks to half-remembered, dreamy summer days. He scours charity shops for old records and VHS tapes to turn into distorted samples, and wraps them in minimal, warm beats. He is obsessed with Japan and its culture, and once sold his entire record collection to pay for a Japanese diploma at the School of Oriental and African Studies, before moving there for a year.”

Telepathe – Chromes on it (Gold Panda mix)

Gold Panda – Quitters Raga

Noah and the Whale – Love of an Orchestra (Gold Panda mix) (Direct link)

The second is Joy Orbison.

“Twenty-two-year-old Pete O’Grady from Croydon, who goes by the name Joy Orbison, is one of the hottest dance producers around.O’Grady has been DJing since the age of 12 and his sound is a lovingly-crafted late-night evolution of house and UK garage, with soft bass, hypnotic home-made percussion and distant chopped-up vocals.”

I posted his ‘Wet Look’ track on the downloads page.

Joy Orbison – Hyph Mngo

Four Tet – Love Cry (Joy Orbison mix) (Highly Recommended)

I use my youth blood to get through the night.

Re-released last week was this single by the Trouble and Bass crews’,  Jinder. Its a much more pop based single for the Trouble and Bass label, home to the heavy bass of  Drop the lime, AC slater, Star eyes and the Captain.  It comes with a host of heavy mixes,  a couple of which are below, all are good but its the dubstep of 12th Planet and Flinch that does it for me.

Jinder-Youth Blood

Jinder-Youth Blood (Bok bok mix)

Jinder-Polyhedron (Supra 1 mix)

Bok bok and L-vis 1990 released this mix a while back full of there own productions. Its the new sound.
